Breaking Barriers: A Piñata Installation Exploring Love, Acceptance, and Unity
May 21st, 6:00 pm, Milagro Theatre, PDX
The Breaking Barriers piñata project is an interactive art installation designed to address societal, cultural, and political barriers. The “breaking barriers” uses the piñata as a powerful metaphor to break down the societal, cultural, and personal barriers.
The piñatas would not only celebrate the rich cultural heritage of this art form but also serve as a powerful medium for addressing social justice issues (immigrant rights, LGBTQ+ acceptance, etc) happening now.
The "Breaking Barriers" installation is more than just an art piece—it's an invitation to take action. Through the power of social media, we’ll encourage the audience to engage with the piñatas, sparking conversations and raising awareness.
The project will actively involve the community in art-making, dialogue, and the celebration of cultural diversity, creating a shared space for reflection and connection. Organize festivals or celebrations where the piñatas are used in a symbolic way—either to be "broken" in the spirit of addressing these issues or as a backdrop for larger discussions.
Event: bringing the community together to talk about the pinatas topics/art installation. Use pinatas as photo props /take pictures to speak up! Plus break a pinata! Open to all.
*** Open to all—families welcome. Recommended for ages 13 and up. Please be aware that sensitive topics will be discussed, and some strong language (including phrases like “f*ck ICE”) may be used. ***
Free Event with advance noticed. RSVP. $ Pay what you can (suggestion $5).
